About Seasplang's Owner
I live in Ferryden, a small old fishing village near Montrose on the east coast of Scotland.
Ferryden sits on the river South Esk where it meets the sea and right next to Montrose Port. It’s quite common to see oil support and cargo vessels above our rooftops as they sail into the Port. The area is very picturesque with a nearby lighthouse, beaches, seabirds and seals.
I started my business 6 years ago when I returned to the area after working abroad for many years. While I was abroad, I started making soap as a hobby and continued when I returned. As I became more experienced, I became more interested in soaps and skincare products and after good feedback about my soaps I decided to start my business. As my product range developed, I learned more about the chemistry of my products and the beauty and skincare industry through speaking with my customers and researching skincare.
I have come to realise that skincare is also about wellness, a healthy lifestyle and the environment, not just about products you can buy.
This has changed the way I live - now I focus on plastic free products at home, help the community and get involved in environmental projects through our local Rotary Club.
About Seasplang Values
There are definitely areas for improvement within skincare. I am making a stand for these through my products.
I feel strongly that customers should know more about the ingredients than the names on a label, especially with the current green marketing in the beauty industry. The word ‘natural is used so loosely to describe products it has become a meaningless. I will provide useful information about the ingredients I use.
I don’t want customers to pay huge packaging costs and throw packaging in the bin. Glossy boxes look great on a shelf but probably add 20-25% onto the product price. I strive for plastic free packaging where I can and fully recyclable packaging.
I don’t agree that marketing departments should have influence over what goes into a product so companies add unnecessary additional ingredients to match a marketing brief rather than customer needs. Every ingredient that goes into my products has a purpose.
Skincare is not all about the products you put on your skin. Its also about your lifestyle and I’ll be expanding on this in my blogs.
About Seasplang Products
My products are cruelty free and handmade. The packaging is recyclable.
My products are not going to be packed full of retinol or acids and tons of extracts because your skin doesn’t really need them if you have a healthy diet and lifestyle.
My products are packed with naturally derived oils and traditional ingredients like calendula and essential oils.
I love making products that have a positive impact on my customer’s skin and hair and my customers love them too.
If you are new to my products, welcome and I hope you like them.
