Castor Seed Oil is a thick sticky oil extracted from Castor beans and heated to destroy the ricin, a toxic protein found in the seeds - therefore Castor oil is always refined before use so its safe to use. Castor oil contains ricinoleic acid, a fatty acid and is known as a skin and hair conditioner. In fact Castor oil has also been implicated in prevention of hair loss and encouraging hair growth. Due to its glossy look, Castor Seed Oil is most often used in making lipsticks.
How do I use Castor Oil in my products?
When I first made my Orange Blossom Bath Oil, it tended to separate out due to the difference between the specific gravity of the avocado oil I used compared to the other components. I found that Castor Seed Oil better matched the specific gravity of the other liquids in the product so I will shortly be changing the bath oil formulation to omit separation and make it a better looking product. The oil will feel thicker and the Castor Oil will add skin conditioning qualities to the Bath Oil so I hope you enjoy this updated product when it is on the shelves.
